Lihua was born in Wuyuan, Jiangxi, China. She received her B.S and M.S from Peking University and Ph.D. in Physiology from Indiana University School of Medicine. She completed her postdoc training at Duke University School of Medicine, and began using zebrafish to investigate microbiota-gut-brain communication during her time there. Outside the lab, she likes animals, hiking and traveling with her husband and friends.

Alfahdah (Fada) grew up in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. She graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University with bachelor’s degrees in Biology and Psychology. While at OWU, she did her undergraduate thesis project in the lab of Dr. David O. Robbins, studying and receiving honors for her work on the perception of visual illusions. Post graduation, Fada worked in the lab of Dr. Susan Reynolds to identify tissue stem cell markers and use the tissue stem cells as cell therapy. Outside of the lab, she enjoys painting, being in nature and traveling.
